Wrong And Right
A recent blog on the web invited readers to submit their answers to the eternal question for learning pool power: "What might be the best possible grip and should one's tip strike the cue ball?
"Sage advice" given by the masses included the following curios:
"...Relax your arm, straighten your elbow, and hit the ball near the center... grip does not make a difference as long as the cue moves smoothly..."
"Follow through for added power... failing that, take a run up to the table!
"A smooth stroke is a must in every shot... start hitting center ball than try applying sidespin..."
Ouch. The way to generate added power with ease in pool? Move both hands (shooting hand and bridge hand) back the same distance along the cue in your stance. If you are setting your grip hand 5 inches back from where you do for most strokes, move the other hand away from the cue ball the same distance. Or move 3 inches and 3 inches, etc.
Bear with me as I remind you again at About.com that "more power" is contextual and rarely is anything required beyond a gentle, silky stroke movement with the fingers and cue.
