1. Learn the correct, classic pool grip and tell others
If players would grip the stick accurately and delicately, they would stay longer at the tables with ease, and pool hall revenues would increase.
2. Players ought to know a powerful stroking movement
3. For goodness' sake, stand at the table intelligently
I want to shout to most players, "Stand at the pool table so you have a chance to hit the shot right in the first place!"
Pool players need to know how to line up to the cue ball with head and stick both, how to step into stance and how to hold a 45-degree stance when they need one, or the game will go no further than it has for the last decade.
4. Forget the 90-degree rule
Perhaps the biggest myth I hear in pool instruction is that the shooting arm needs to be held at a 90-degree angle to the table during the stroke. There is a much better way as you realize one must absolutely throw the cuestick through most strokes.
5. Add to the arsenal a variety of special strokes
Who insists that most pool strokes are the same in technique? They certainly are not--and some of my favorite variations on a classic stroke are available to you at The Shot Center.
