In the playing of cue sports, including pocket billiards, cushion billiards, snooker, etc., the player propels a cue ball to set an object ball in motion along a chosen path. As shown in the accompanying illustration, the typical path chosen is the shortest line from the object ball to the pocket opening’s center, commonly called the “shot line”.
