Consider a student of mine able to make perhaps 80% of object balls successfully. Incoming to accept all 8 stripes or high balls, he is looking at pulling off his 80% success eight times running or less than a 17% chance of success at completing the table! Yes, only 1 in every 5 or 6 games will he run the table from the opening turn at the table.
While that one run will be satisfying (if he is not already out of the match or tournament) note also that 1 of 4 times he will leave the last two balls on the table (a stripe and the eight) and face whatever of a variety of defensive options the opposing player cares to provide him. Or his opponent could simply run out, and with better odds, too, as most of the offending stripes blocking his solids have disappeared!
In the words of Agents 86 and 99, Get Smart and consistently seek two-way shot opportunities instead--and win some 8-Ball!
