apa style, apa pool, apa pool leagues, apa association, apa leagues APA, Trouble In Paradise

“APA style” is not always a plus, if you ask local league players. Like other leagues troubled in our sport, players come in and out of league membership on a regular basis... sort of the way I wish my haircut was not so troubled when this accompanying photo was taken!

One cannot simply blame the bachelor (and bachelorette) nature of billiards. A good league has my attendance forever going forward! There are some serious issues that pool leagues, all of them worldwide, need to address or they risk another deep lull in pool to match that of the 1950's before The Hustler appeared on screen and the 1970's and 80's prior to Paul Newman and Tom Cruise in The Color of Money, especially during the current economic crisis.

The APA Pool League, a.k.a. from its past heritage as the Camel League or Bud Light League or Busch League from its corporate sponsors' names, or the American Pool League, features exciting weekly competition for its members and a trip to win it all in Las Vegas each year.

At the local level, APA teams shoot 8-Ball or 9-Ball against 5 to 15 other teams. The trimester of Spring, Summer and Fall mean several chances each year to set ratings and handicaps and refresh for new rounds of competition.

Where offered, APA’s Local Team Championships and National Team Championships provide added experience and incentive. Shooting pool against and with thousands in Vegas is a truly awesome experience to cherish.

But added to the occasional unfair handicapping and not-so-gentle bickering one must expect at the local level, given our culture’s current dearth of gentlemanly behavior in sport, there are a few key problems that suggest that…
