The rule is: "No Screw-Ons, Glue-Ons or Chew-Ons!"
It is essential to get the right cuestick at the pool hall for your use. The number one priority is one with an excellent tip on its front end.
Here are fast pointers for examining any cue tip.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Seconds per cuestick to examine the tip closely
Here's How:
- Avoid cheap cues with tips that have a screw attached to their bottom, that insert into the ferrule. Hollow ferrules absorb the force of impact poorly and crack easily.
- Tips should be adhered carefully to their ferrules. No stray glue marks should be visible when you view a tip at close range.
- Avoid broken tips falling off the cue and tips that look as if somebody took a bite out of them.
- Avoid flattened tips, you will not strike the cue ball where you have aimed to hit its surface as you will with a round tip!
