Where does my head belong in my pool stance? And is this an important detail? It is if you want to see your aim improve and shot percentages increase dramatically.
Let’s review three head issues that most players, even some rather skilled players, are in the dark about:
1. Head and your cue stick are often on different lines of alignment and...
2. Head changes position from shot to shot and...
3. Head is placed first during the shot, not as an afterthought
Let’s review each of these points in order.
Everyone Get On Two Lines
The assumption that you ought to bend over the cue stick so your chin or your dominant eye rests above it is wrong and will wreck the pool bodies' aiming potential for most players.
There are numerous cut shot angles where my eyes need to lead the shot with my head perched where I have the best view since my shooting hand and shooting arm do not need to “see”.
It is not vital that you sight down your cue stick like a gunner over a rifle. What is necessary is that you see clearly and fixedly the target section of the object ball you wish to shoot at next.
Trust your eyes to lead the hand during practice strokes and your final stroke rather than forcing your eyes to see your hand and stick crisply throughout the shot and you’ll score much better in the pockets.
Next, let’s talk about what I call “the floating head” position for pool and billiards. I'll fix the pool bodies of the world if it takes years and all the strength I can muster.
