The pool slate used in decent pool table construction is "oversized pool slate”. Larger than “standard” it may be bolted between the slate’s frame and the table’s rails.
One may bolt pool slate through a table’s sides into leaded anchors or eyelets/turnbuckles. Rosettes and other designs are used to hide the bolts. Larger 10- to 12-foot Snooker tables use “standard” slate currently. But the key to slate is weightiness to dampen table vibration. So you’ll not be overly concerned about oversized slate—if your table weighs a ton or more.
Therefore, consider several distinct advantages provided by the oversized pool slate. Sandwiched by rail and frame, it provides strength and reliability. And a bigger slate = more weight = more stability against table vibration = my big caboose striking the table does not make the balls move plus shots are more reliable.
