Pool tables are considered relatively "faster" or "slower" based on the speed and the distance the balls tend to travel on any given stroke. On a fast table, for example, a soft, gentle stroke might carry a ball the length of the table and back. A slow table might roll half as far.

Some players develop a preference for slow or fast tables. "Speed" is due mostly to qualities of felt and slate.
