The jump stroke, when seen in super-slow motion, shows clearly how the cue ball is pressed between the cuestick and felt for fractions of a second before leaping airborne.

Captured here by the film exposure, you can see the cue ball remains on the table, nudged forward a bit by hitting down forcefully into the ball, before the ball responds, and squeezed out from under the stick, takes to the sky! The cuestick should follow as seen here (allow the stick to play freely within your relaxed shooting hand).
