The massé stroke is a choice--smash your cue and felt to bits or stroke down with light force only.

The lovely massé (pronounced mass-say) is applied with a gentle touch, otherwise the ball moves forward away from the stroke so quickly, the overspin destroys the chance for the sidespin english to takeover and curve the ball, changing its direction. Watch the path the ball takes in the subsequent photos closely.

Note the tip has gone into the table with a bang. A more than gentle stroke could break the tip or table itself!
