Somewhat the polar opposite of the pull method from the previous page, many fine players toss or throw the cue instead through the classic pool stroke.
You can toss a ball accurately and without undue effort. As a matter of fact, clenching muscles destroys the opportunity to gently toss a ball accurately with an underhand motion. Likewise, you will want to send the cue gently if you wish to throw it through the stroke.
For this to work effectively, consider the weight in your shooting hand to be your center of awareness rather than the cue tip. Almost as easily as you can toss a ball to a target, you can turn the arm sideways to throw the cue stick the correct speed through the shot--the speed that provides excellent rate of speed for the cue ball.
Last, let's consider the hand slap method of billiards stroking.
