Bridge Hand

Definition: The hand used as a guide for the cuestick to pass along during a shot. For most shots, this hand will remain immobile on the table. The dominant hand will stroke the cue and the weaker hand will bridge the distance between the cuestick and cueball.

“Bridge” is also a shorthand term for the mechanical bridge used when the bridging arm cannot effectively reach for the shot.

Examples:
The pros can adjust their bridge hand to be less than an inch away from the cueball to twenty inches or more behind the ball, depending on whether they are reaching for precision or power in the stroke.
