Definition: Another name for Pool, or a pool-type game using large balls and a table without pockets. Pool would thus be "Pocket Billiards" and the game without pockets, "Cushion Billiards".
Billiards is also a slang term for making pocketed balls or carom balls in pool; scoring points.
