Backswing

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The motion of the shooting hand holding the cuestick to initiate a stroke. The shooting hand and arm bring the cuestick backwards away from the cue ball and target. The further to the rear of the player the backswing extends, the stronger the shot will be stroked with the forward swing when the direction is reversed.
Examples:
Marvin appreciated the smooth backswing of “Felt’s” stroke on the 9-ball.
