A reader writes in regarding a "...Table mostly for my kids, but I want something decent so we won't all get frustrated. Any recommendations for a 7' table? I'd like to spend less then $1K."
I was asked for my response to an ad like this:
THIS TABLE IS GOING TO GO... FAST!!!
For immediate sale is a 1-year-old 7', 3/4" slate professional pool table by Sportcraft. This table, with cherry red felt in great condition, was purcahsed last September for $1575. After going to great lengths to ensure I would be able to play on this table long-term, I regret to admit that I have to part with it, as I am being transferred. The entire package is worth well over $2000, however, I am looking for an immediate sale, so I am selling at an aggressive discount.
Components of Package:
- 7', 3/4" slate pool table by Sportcraft
- Custom Naugahyde cover (maroon)
- 4 FiberTech Professional pool cues ($300 value)
- Bridge cue
- Cue wall rack
- Super Aramith Pro Belgian Ball Set ($200 value)
- Billiard ball wall clock
- Chalk
- Official Book of Pool Rules
Sounds good and true, doesn't it? Here was the gist of my advice:
The main question I have for you is this:
Are you wanting the 7' table as it will just fit in the room you've picked out or because of the price of the set?
At times, you can find a used 8' or larger table for under $1,000, too. I have listed a dozen articles on picking out a table size here at:
It's a good set that is listed, though, and your family would enjoy it.
