A young athlete is always astonishing at the Olympic Games. But I've been astounded still more by young pool and billiards players.

Who are the youngest male and female athletes at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China?

The Seychelles' Dwayne Didon (13 years and 11 months) and Cameroon's Antoinette Guedia (a tender 12 years, 10 months) are both swimming in the 50 meter freestyle. [Source: About Swimming]. But some of pool's youngest take on the triple challenges of competition, atmosphere and gambling, making them elite young athletes indeed.

David Uwate was a playing peer of mine back at the University of Florida years ago. He was a seasoned veteran long before his college days--at age twelve--when he took on a money match for $2,000 US and won! David went on the win the ACUI national collegiate championships in Hawaii.
