Drawing imaginary lines (illustrated as purple lines) perpendicular to the table’s short rail and long rail, box to the center of the object ball under consideration.

What I mean by “center of the ball” is the topmost part of the ball you can see, or its exact geographic center, or its base where it rests on the table.
