Definition: The cushions or rails alongside the two longer sides of the table, technically four bumpers or rails in all as they separated at the side pockets. Most pool tables are twice as long as they are wide. On an 8-foot table, the long rails include several 43-inch long cushions placed between the side and corner pockets.
Examples:
A simple bank shot might run twice the distance of the table, along one long rail of a pool table.
