Key Ball

By Matthew Sherman, About.com

Definition: A ball chosen one shot in advance of another important shot to set position. Smart players plan ahead, leaving a key ball for the next to last shot to set up the game win.
Examples: “I left that last solid, the three near the corner, for a key ball to get position on the 8-ball.”
