Ferrule

Definition: The ferrule is the white section of the cue stick that the tip affixes onto. Made of ivory or composite materials, the ferrule cushions the intense force of impact, protecting the wooden cue shaft from splintering, warping or breaking.
Pronunciation: Pronounced as "ferr-rule"
Examples:
The ferrule of the cuestick often disappears into the player’s fingers at the fullest extent of the stroke’s backswing.
