Why Buy a Personal Cue?

There are reasons for having your own cue for the poolroom

“Y Buy A Q?”

Pool's greatest pleasures are reserved for those who control the movements of the balls precisely. Two key ingredients provide this thrill, knowledge of the fundamentals and a decent cuestick.

People lugging cues slung over their shoulders (in cue cases frequently mistaken for rifle cases or blueprints cylinders, I’ve been able to impersonate deer hunters and architects) are a common sight on today's college campuses and city streets. A personal cue is more important to pool performance than a familiar, comfortable glove is to a baseball outfielder, adding consistency and control as the player becomes familiar with the idiosyncrasies of their stick.

Fine custom cues separate into two sections for ease of storage and transport, protecting them (and nearby people) from injury. Their lovely woods, aged and turned like fine wine, are fashioned to perfection in the workshop. Inferior prototypes and failed attempts were discarded during the cue's creation.

Comparing a custom stick for the first time with the inferior ones stocked by most poolrooms, most players look astonished. They say, "This is much better than those. This cue is sweet!" Psychologically, a fine cue's attractive appearance alone can help.

At the least expensive level for a decent stick, about $100, major brand names provide a variety of options. You can select your choice of weight, length and size, as well as the color(s) the cue model you choose will bear.

More money provides tremendous flexibility in your design, and you can plan each detail, from its unique decoration to its balance and shaft flexibility; a truly "custom made" cuestick.
