Center Ball

By Matthew Sherman, About.com

Definition: All points on a sphere’s surface being equal, “center ball” is the exact middle point on the cue ball as facing the player during the stroke, halfway between the top of the ball and the point where it is seen resting on the table.

All references to english or spin are calculated as distances from the center point, as in “aim about one cue tip’s distance of right english” (one cue tip’s measurement from the center of the ball as facing the player).

Examples: Figuring where the cue ball will travel to starts with approximating where the ball will land if struck center ball and then adjusting from that point if you plan a fancier play than dead center.
