What is the single most important shot in pocket billiards? A full, curving masse for the 1 in 100 or more games that is truly a need? The long, straight-in shot? The one-rail bank into the side pocket?
The answer in this writer's opinion is the break stroke. Without it, you get empty air. Nothing hurts worse than popping open a rack of Nine Ball or Eight Ball, scattering the balls across the length of the table, all in good position off the rails with lots of room for whitey, only to break nothing in and watch your opponent runout for the win. Nothing.
And therefore, some hot tips to improve your break today. For example, (and admittedly there is individuality in breaking and not all tips work equally for all players) try moving your bridge hand slightly forward as you draw your shooting hand and arm back for the break... just try it!
