"Why should I care about a level cue?" ask some of my students. The answer is simple if unobvious.
Any non-level cue has a tendency to curve the path of the cue ball away from its straight line target. You miss pocketing the ball.
Certainly, it's almost impossible to wield a perfectly level cue stick. Everyone wants to take a level stroke and follow through level also, but the rail gets in the way. To reduce curve, keep the cue as often as you can not more than six inches elevated from the table.
Six inches is just above the table rail. Keep the cue low. You'll like your results far better.
