Curing The Break Ball Blues

Why You Can Or Can't Catch A Break

The break ball winner, the nine ball or eight ball in the games of 9-Ball and 8-Ball shouldn't leave the rack easily on the break. They should wander a few short inches from the middle of their rack, perhaps, and then sink off the break stroke if another ball collides into them with force.

If you're sinking the break winner consistently off the break, surely the spot where the head ball sits in the rack is worn excessively on the cloth.

To tighten a rack and safeguard against an opponent's break, one solution is to move the rack a bit ahead of the spot (never beneath the head spot, unless you like them to break multiple balls in with ease).
