45 Degrees or How?
A debate has been raging for decades in pool regarding the "correct" stance or alignment to the table for the player. Is there one particular way you should step to the table to shoot to perform your best? I have illustrated basic concepts concerning extreme and "classic" stances (classic having the feet aligned 45 degrees to the shot), explaining why straying from the classic is a poor choice for most pool shooters. Check out my classic stance basics photo essay within as part of our recently updated pool strokes section.
Is there a particular method you use to align at the pool table? And, more importantly, is it working for your needs? Whatever your stance, you'll want to place your feet and arms consistently in place.
Recently, I noticed that I tend to line up well when placing the outside of my right thigh (just inside the right hip) along the shot line, that is, for someone of my height and wingspan, I tend to find the cue on line best in this manner.
What techniques have you been using (or experimenting with) recently?
